PID
is short for Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, an umbrella term for infections
of the female reproductive organs.
In
85% of the cases it’s caused by having sexual intercourse
without using a condom.
The two major causes are Chlamydia
and Gonorrhoea.
The
incidence is highest in women aged 15-25 and decreases with age.
 The
infection starts in the vagina
and moves up into the uterus,
the ovaries
and fallopian
tubes. It can lead to adhesions of the fibrous tissue and cause (parts
of) organs to stick together.
If
both fallopian tubes are affected it may unable you to have children.
