 Many
girls with a STD have
no complaints, which is also true for PID. They are often unaware of any problem.
They may find out years later, being unable to conceive. Thirty to forty percent
of the cases of female infertility are caused by PID. There
may also be such subtle or mild symptoms that you don’t seek help immediately.
This delay in diagnosis and treatment may give the inflammation time to spread.
Common
symptoms are lower abdominal pain, excessive vaginal discharge, excessive menstrual
flow, loosing blood in between menstruations,
tenderness on movement of the cervix,
fever, chills and urinary symptoms. It
increases the risk of ectopic
pregnancy, the fertilized
egg being unable to travel down to the uterus,
implanting itself in the fallopian
tube. Avoid PID by always using a condom
if you are not absolutely sure your partner has no infection or STD. Avoid vaginal
douches.
