A
string of pearls refers to little swellings (about 1-3mm) some guys
have on the penis,
around the coronal ridge.
These
bumps are the pearly penile papules, which run around the rim of the
penis head like a string of pearls. There can be just one row, but some
have two or three strings close together.
The
incidence reportedly ranges from 8-48%. Some suggest an increased incidence
in both uncircumcised
and black men.
The
pearly penile papules are a normal part of the skin’s anatomy. It’s
completely innocent and requires no treatment. They persist throughout
life, but may become less noticeable with increased age.
Pearly
penile papules may look like genital
warts in the initial stage. So if you notice these little bumps
after you had unprotected sex you should visit your GP and get it checked
out to make sure it’s nothing serious.
