As a baby I was circumcised. But I wonder if this is normal, for I’m not Jewish. Are more guys circumcised? When I take a shower with my friends I’m embarrassed because I am the only one without a foreskin.

Many guys without religious background are circumcised. This is often done for health reasons, preventing bacteria and germs to accumulate between glans and foreskin, thus decreasing the risk of penile cancer and urinary tract infections. For this reason the vast majority of American men is circumcised. But this practice has changed over the past decennia: it’s no longer done on a routine basis. In the Netherlands the percentage of circumcised men has always been rather low, but some doctors still circumcise boys and men without a good reason. In the Netherlands most people don’t hold a strong view when it comes to the foreskin. Having a foreskin is not considered more normal than not having one. So there is absolutely no reason to feel ashamed.
