‘Coming
out’ is telling others that you are gay,
lesbian or bisexual.
If you have discovered your sexual orientation and have accepted it, the moment
will come that you don’t want to keep it secret any longer. Hiding this kind of
information normally consumes a lot of energy. But to reveal your sexual preference
is not as easy as it sounds. Others may react negatively. How to do it?
Coming
out starts with acknowledging and accepting you are gay, lesbian or bisexual.
First you have to feel good about your sexual preference before you tell others.
If you have completely accepted it yourself negative reactions will not affect
you as much.Get into contact with other homosexuals first.
If anyone reacts negatively you have a support group to help you. You can also
ask them how they told others about their homosexuality. Select
the first person carefully, choosing someone who doesn’t have any negative thoughts
about homosexuality and who can keep a secret. Pick a time when he/she can be
most supportive. The
more often you do it, the easier it becomes. I’m
a lesbian and want to tell my parents, but I don’t know how. Can you help me?
