If
you had unprotected sex or if the condom
was torn, you can choose to have an intrauterine
device (IUD) inserted.
This must be done within five days after unprotected intercourse.
It’s
called an emergency IUD because of the circumstances in which it’s put in. But
in fact it’s a normal IUD that will protect you for years. If you don’t want to
keep it in you can have it removed after you have had your period.
You
have to visit a clinician to have it placed. See
