Because guys often put on a brave face you may get the wrong picture about first-time sex, thinking others start at an early age and know right away what they are doing. To give you a realistic picture I’ll show you some results of research done in this area in the Netherlands:
Most guys are quite nervous the first time they have sex. They are often very uncertain about what is expected of them.
Many are clumsy the first time, especially when the place is not ideal, like a car that’s too small. With experience guys relax and start to enjoy it more.
In the Netherlands about half the guys of 17 had intercourse. So 50% is still virgin at 17.
About 10% of the guys who had intercourse for the first time would have liked to wait a little longer.
For one third of the guys the first time is unexpectedly and for 10% it happens completely by surprise (a good reason to have a condom with you, even if you don’t plan to have sex!).
On average guys date one month before they have sex with their girlfriend. One in three waits three months or longer.
The first time is normally not as spectacular as the guy expects it to be. But few are so disappointed they think it was a bad experience.
More than half the guys thinks their parents are an obstacle, because they don’t like him taking a girl to his room or because he is unable to relax with his parents around.
For many guys contraception is troublesome. About 25% of the guys doesn’t use condoms, even if the girl does not use birth control pills. They simply don’t think about pregnancy or STD’s, as if this will never happen to them (for them it will be a big surprise if the girl tells them a month later she is expecting a baby)..
