A piercing (ringing) is a puncturing of the skin, ornamented with jewelry. A genital piercing is a piercing in the penis, scrotum or vulva.
In the past 15 years genital piercings have become popular. It’s hard to predict who has piercings in intimate places: one can easily be surprised.
The reasons to have a genital piercing differ. Some like the looks of it, others do it to stimulate and arouse. It can make oral sex more exciting and even during walking heighten sensations.
You should reckon with a long healing process, with possible risk of infections. It might take anywhere from two weeks to three months. During this period you should abstain from sex or be very careful (using condoms, not touching it with unwashed hands, not exchanging body fluids etc).
A genital piercing can make intercourse painful. Another possible disadvantage is the condom breaking more easily, making safe sex more difficult.
