If
you decide to have your genitals pierced, think about a few things ahead of time:
Make
sure you have it done by an experienced person with a good reputation. The exact
location of the piercing can be critical.
Ask
beforehand about sterilization protocols. They should use needles only once, otherwise you run the risk of getting Hepatitis
B, C and Aids.
Cleaning needles with alcohol is not sufficient! Other instruments should be sterilized
in an on-premises autoclave.
Ask
about aftercare. You should expect written instructions, letting you know how
to take care of the wound.
Except
for an ear piercing, you should never let them shoot a hole. If they argue this
is a good method, look for another studio.
Only
be pierced when you feel healthy and you are well rested. Eat beforehand.
Never
remove the piercing if you have an infection. You run the risk of the wound closing.
The piercing can be replaced by filament, keeping the wound from closing and allowing
pus to come out. If you have an infection contact your
piercer or go to your doctor.
It
can make safe sex
more difficult because the condoms might break more easily. Lubricating
the inside of the condom as well as the jewelry itself
will reduce friction.
