I am 14 and have a lump under my right nipple. It’s painful to touch. Can it be breast cancer? I am scared!

Don’t worry. When it comes to nipple or breast enlargement during your teens it’s normally gynaecomastia. Many guys fear it to be breast cancer, but that is hardly ever the case. It happens more frequently to older men: the majority of men with breast cancer are between 60 and 70 years old. There are a few important differences between gynaecomastia and breast cancer. With gynaecmastia it’s normally a tender mass, measuring 1-3 cm, well rounded and in the middle of the breast. If it is breast cancer it is a firm lump, often attached to the skin around the nipple and normally painless. There may be other symptoms, like bloody discharge from the nipple and a swelling of the skin. From your description I expect it to be gynaecomastia. But if you want to be sure go to your doctor to have it checked out.
