Hyperhydrosis
is a condition in which perspiration
is excessive, far more than is needed to cool the body.
This condition of uncontrolled sweating often involves the hands,
feet and underarms and face.
Patients
often have to change their life style to accommodate this problem. Many routine
actions, like shaking hands, can become impossible chores. Friends, relatives
and even doctors easily underestimate the emotional and social impact this condition
may have on one’s life.
It
is estimated that about 0,5 % of the people suffer from
this condition.
There
are several solutions, like electrotherapy, botulinum toxin injections or alternative
treatment.
It’s
also possible to have an operation, in which clips are applied on the nerves,
causing the cessation of its function. This operation has become more precise
in the past decennia, but is still only done in exceptional cases because of the
risk of complications. One of the possible problems of surgery is compensatory
sweating in other places.
