You can meet nice people through internet. Some people come across someone special, start chatting and fall in love. The next step might be that you want to meet this person in real life. What can you do to make such an encounter successful?
Don’t fall in love at the click of a mouse. Collect information first and take your time to see whether or not you want to pursue a relationship in the off line world.
Don’t give away personal information too early, especially your address and telephone number.
Always bear in mind that someone may put on a front (older, younger, of the opposite sex, nicer, etc.). So don’t rush it. Look for odd behaviour or inconsistencies. Get suspicious if you don’t get answers to direct questions.
Start slowly. Wait with a date till you really get to know the other person. Try to get an overall picture of the other person in everyday life.
Exchange photos. If all you hear are excuses about why you cannot see a photo, consider the other person has something to hide.
Find out if the other person has other ‘internet lovers’ or is going steady.
Chat on the phone.

What (not) to do once you have decided to meet?
