The
menopause is the period in which a woman stops to menstruate.
Estrogen
levels drop, the ovaries
do no longer release eggs
and fertility
comes slowly to an end. Sometimes this happens almost at once, but usually it’s
a gradual process. Although
menstruation may be sporadic pregnancy
can happen, so you should still use contraception.
With
most women menopause starts when they are 45 to 55 years old. If it happens before
the age of 40 it’s called early or premature menopause. This
phase normally takes 6-13 years. Women may experience a variety of feelings during
this period of change, ranging from discomfort and loss to relief and freedom.
