If you get involved in SM you should be careful so you won’t get hurt. Especially if you take the submissive position and are tied up you must know that your partner is absolutely trustworthy.
If you play an SM game always agree upon a safe word beforehand. This is a word that ends the game. “No” or “don’t” are no good, for pleading can be part of the game. Better to use a word like “red”, something you would otherwise never use.
Most talk beforehand about what the submissive wants and doesn’t want. The dominant stays within these set limits.
When you tie someone up, make sure you:
o       never put something around the front of the throat and never cover the head with a bag.
o       never have the ropes so tight you block the blood circulation. You should be able to slip a finger under the ropes/chains/scarves. Check regularly for coldness, numbness and discoloration as signs of circulation loss.
o       can loosen the other person quickly in case of emergency (e.g. fire), for instance with scissors or a knife.
o       don’t leave the one who is tight up alone.
