I hate sanitary
napkins but am afraid of tampons. What can I do?
Many girls need time to get used to something inside
their vagina.
So take your time. The first step is to discover what your vulva
looks like. Undress and look at it with a mirror. Draw the lips apart
and look at the vaginal opening. Wet your index finger with saliva and
touch the opening. Maybe you have to do this some days in a row to get
used to it and feel relaxed. Once touching it feels good, insert your
finger in your vagina. Keep the
muscles around your vagina relaxed. If one finger poses no problem,
insert two fingers. If this goes easily you can try to insert a tampon.
Take the smallest size (mini/slender) and wet your vagina beforehand.
So take it one step at a time, gradually losing your fear. If you are
unable to insert the tampon because you involuntarily tighten the muscles
around the vagina, look under ‘vaginismus.’
