A
transsexual is someone who is genetically male but inside feels like
a girl, identifying with girls. Or it’s the other way round, being genetically
female but feeling like a guy, identifying with boys. It’s as if the
physical sex doesn’t fit the gender identity.
Transsexuals
have the idea that their mind is trapped in the body of the opposite
sex. This state of inner conflict often starts at a very early age.
It normally becomes stronger getting older, especially during the early
teens when the body becomes more masculine or feminine.
It’s
estimated that it concerns 1 or 2 out of every 100.000 people.
Transsexuality
has in the first place to do with identity, being one’s self, and not
so much with sexuality. But it has of course implications for sexuality
as well.
Many
transsexuals feel so confused and scared that they don’t see a way out
and commit suicide. If you are a transsexual, seek help. Getting in
touch with others with the same problem will be a big relief. Know that
many transsexuals who have a sex change live happy and successful lives.
